LightForce® Laser Therapy: Innovative Treatment For Chronic Pain

Chronic pain, which is mild or severe pain that lasts for weeks to years, can make it difficult to do everyday tasks. It can also affect your mental health, sleep, and stress levels, which in turn can cause your pain to become worse. At Complete Physical Rehabilitation, we are proud to offer LightForce® Laser Therapy at our Elizabeth and Jersey City locations as an effective, medication-free therapy for chronic pain.

Laser Therapy is a treatment option that uses photobiomodulation (PBM), sometimes known as light therapy, to speed up recovery naturally. This technique can reduce your discomfort in as little as one therapy session.

LightForce® Therapy Lasers, which use cutting-edge, pain-free technology, have been clinically proven to relieve inflammation and pain. This innovative laser technology revolutionizes pain management because it is non-surgical and doesn’t involve the harmful side effects of drugs.

What types of pain can benefit from laser therapy?

LightForce® laser therapy is an ideal treatment for you if you live with chronic pain. Lightforce Medical’s website states, “With chronic conditions, research has shown that therapy lasers can be used to help combat persistent pain and promote circulation to damaged tissues.” Laser therapy has also been proven to aid in recovery from acute injuries and conditions.

Some of the conditions that LightForce® laser therapy can promote healing with:

  • Neck pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • TMJ
  • Shoulder pain / rotator cuff
  • Joint pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Arthritis
  • Soft tissue damage
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Post-operative pain
  • Myofascial pain
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Spinal cord injury

How do Lightforce lasers aid in the stages of recovery?

When you get hurt, your body goes through three stages of recovery: inflammation, repair, and remodeling. The use of laser therapy can improve and speed up this process.

  1. Inflammation: Inflammation is the body’s response to harmful stimuli or substances, such as bacteria and viruses. Inflammation is an important part of our immune system. When the immune system detects anything that might be harmful, it sets off inflammation to clear away those foreign substances from the body. Inflammation can also happen when there are changes to tissues in the body, which may be caused by injury or infection. Inflammation is a common cause of pain, swelling, heat, redness, and loss of function in an area of the body.
  1. Repair: Your body will increase blood flow to an injured area to bring in cells that can repair the damaged tissue. This is where laser therapy is most beneficial. Laser therapy and PBM process speed up the healing process by shortening the length of inflammation time and giving energy to the cells responsible for healing tissue.
  1. Remodeling: The final stage of the healing process is remodeling. This simply means training the repaired tissue to perform all the tasks it had achieved before the injury.  With the help of a physical therapist, you can regain normal movement and improve the strength in the repaired tissue so that you don’t sustain another injury. Laser therapy is still beneficial in this stage because not all of the tissue is repaired by this point.  Overall, physical therapy combined with laser treatments can provide the best possible recovery from injury.

What to expect during laser therapy treatment at Complete Physical Rehabilitation

Laser therapy does not hurt! The process is very simple and relatively quick. Because laser light cannot penetrate through layers of clothes, laser therapy treatments must be applied directly to the skin. As the therapy is performed, you will sense a comforting warmth that signals the start of a process of modulated cellular activity. This leads to reduced pain and enhanced local circulation in the treated area!

LightForce® Therapy is used by a large number of patients. People who have had laser treatments say they like it, mainly when a massage-ball treatment head is utilized to offer a “laser massage.” (TESTIMONIAL HERE?)

Patients who receive treatments with higher-power lasers often report a significant reduction in discomfort. This effect can be powerful in people suffering from chronic pain. For any kind of pain, however, laser therapy may be a helpful option.

LightForce® Therapy lasers work to reduce pain and inflammation without causing adverse effects. The innovative light technology heals the body and produces long-term results, plus treatments are super quick, taking 5-10 minutes on average, depending on your condition!

The nature of your pain condition and symptoms, and your reaction to laser therapy, will be important factors in determining the number of treatments required. The majority of laser therapy treatment plans will include 6-12 treatments, with possible additional treatment required for long-term, chronic illnesses. Your physical therapist at Complete Physical Rehabilitation will devise a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

We strive to make our patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment, so we have taken the time to make short videos previewing certain in-clinic treatments.
