10 Years For Jersey City

As we reach the end of a very special month for our Jersey City Physical Therapy clinic, it really is nice to take a step back and reflect on everything.  When you do that, it’s amazing to see where we’ve come from to where we are now, especially with the tremendous growth of the Jersey City community around us.

Marathon Recovery Tips

Well I did it.  I FINISHED MY VERY FIRST RACE!  I am so happy to have participated in the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon and honestly can’t believe that I completed a half marathon as my first race ever.

No one really gives you advice for POST race recovery.  And as I was sitting there, I realized that I wasn’t necessarily engaging in activity that would help my recovery go smoothly, and neither were some of the other runners around me.  So I decided to focus on what would be best to help me get back on my feet faster.

So here are the Top 3 Tips for post race recovery:

Dr. James’ Race Week Preparations

It’s the day before the big United Airlines NYC Half Marathon 2017!  I’m so excited and eager to participate in my first ever marathon!  The past 2 months have training have gone better than I expected.  As with any training regimen, there were setbacks that presented themselves, but, overall, I am more than happy with how my training went.

So as this past week unfolded, what did I focus on with my training?

Watch Your Back When Shoveling

When we treat patients for Physical Therapy in Elizabeth and Jersey City, we do a lot of education regarding posture, especially when it pertains to daily activities.  Treatment obviously helps when injury occurs, but Physical Therapists are the top specialists that can also educate you on how to prevent injury from ever happening.  Since my wife, Dr. Asha Koshy, is a McKenzie certified back specialist, every back program that we have in our clinics is specially tailored to everyday living.  And with our area getting hammered by winder storm Stella, now is as good a time as any to give you our best tips for saving your back when shoveling snow.

Happy 10th Anniversary to the Jersey City Physical Therapy Clinic!

March 9, 2007.  Wow.  In the blink of of an eye, we come into the office today to celebrate 10 whole years since our Jersey City Physical Therapy clinic first opened…

The AlterG & Running Training – Week 4

I’m happy to report that, with the full lower extremity support that the treadmill provides, I was able to run 5.06 miles AND recover faster the next day.  Whereas I ran 4.5 miles the week before with a high level of soreness and tightness the next morning, I was able to run 5.06 miles with soreness but minimal tightness and absolutely no morning-after pain whatsoever.  And let’s be clear, I’ve NEVER run over 5 miles at once in my entire life!

Getting the Runner’s High in Week 3!

After my minor setbacks due to allergies in Week 2, I was anxious to see what week 3 of training for the United Airlines New York Half Marathon would bring.  Part of my week was interrupted by the fact that I was travelling back to New Jersey from California in the middle of the week, so the long travel and subsequent adjustment back to east coast time effectively threw a wrench into my training for a day or two.  But by the end of the week, I still managed to see major gains in both total length of run, diet, and energy levels overall!

Dealing With Training Setbacks in Week 2

After a great start to my training, I expected a little pushback to my running training in week 2 last week, but it didn’t come from where I expected it to.  I actually started out with a great 2.5 mile walk/run to start out the week, but then it hit me…

My First Week Of Running Training

New year, new start, new possibilities.  That’s how I look at running my first half marathon this March, the 2017 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon.  This is the biggest challenge that I’ve undertaken in quite a while, one that I am more than excited to tackle.  I’ve spent 17 years training runners for these races, and it feels good to take on the task of running one myself.
