Physical Therapy Gets Jackie Back To A Normal Life

When we treat a physical therapy patient, we know that our job is not just to help patients physically, but sometimes emotionally as well.  Surgery in general can be a very emotional experience.  And to have major surgery, that’s just as emotional as it comes.  So we know that it’s important to make sure that the patient is not only physically getting better, but that they are doing well emotionally as well.  The whole experience of having surgery & the recovery process that follows is quite draining, but we as Physical Therapists do the best we can to offer that needed helping hand.

Jackie’s story was no different.  After having major knee replacement surgery, she had a long road ahead of her.  Admittedly an emotional person, she questioned herself and whether she would be able to handle the difficult rehabilitation that would follow the surgery.

But step by step, day by day, we were able to break through both the physical and mental barriers that would present themselves.  And somewhere along the way, something amazing happened.  Our emotional support wasn’t needed as much as the days passed, and her self-confidence grew and grew.  To see a transformation like that is just amazing to witness in person.  Before we knew it, she was primed and ready for the world, talking about what exercise classes she wanted to take when she finished Physical Therapy how she couldn’t wait to get back into the gym.

We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome for someone who became a part of our family.  Congratulations to Jackie!! (Tip:  When you watch the video below, you might want to have a tissue handy.)
