Complete Physical Rehabilitation

Pre-Surgical Rehab

Do you have an upcoming surgery? Your doctor may recommend pre-surgical rehabilitation before surgery to help you during and after the operation. Where physical therapy was once reserved for those who had already had a procedure done, physical therapists have recently documented the validity behind the idea of having rehab before surgery.

What Is Pre-Surgical Rehabilitation?

You may not have to imagine too hard what it feels like in the part of your body where you are expecting to have surgery. Is it strong and ready for anything or is it weak, inflamed, and painful? Have you exercised the area to improve blood flow and circulation or have you been favoring that part of your body, trying not to move unless it is absolutely necessary?

You are not alone. In most cases, patients who resort to surgery to solve their movement problems are not in the best of health or physical condition. Otherwise, they wouldn’t need surgery, right? But physical therapy not only strengthens the surrounding muscles and tissues in anticipation of surgery, it can help improve blood flow and circulation that are so important for wound healing and the prevention of scar tissue. Physical therapy can also help improve your overall health in preparation for the strain and stress that often goes with general anesthesia, surgery and recovery.

What Are The Symptoms Of Low Back Pain?

Symptoms of lower back pain can come on suddenly or appear gradually. Sometimes, pain occurs after a specific event, such as bending to pick something up. Other times, you may not know what caused the pain. Pain may be sharp or dull and achy, and it may radiate to your buttocks or down the back of your legs. Pain is often worse in certain positions and gets better when you lie down. Muscle strain is often the cause of back pain from heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.

In addition to these symptoms, you may experience stiffness in your back, making it difficult to move or perform daily activities. Prolonged sitting or standing can exacerbate the discomfort, while sudden movements or bending might trigger or worsen the pain. For some, back pain may be accompanied by muscle spasms or a sensation of weakness in the legs, making it challenging to walk or stand for extended periods. If the pain is severe or persists despite self-care measures, it’s important to seek professional advice and receive appropriate treatment.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing Low Back Pain?

At Complete Physical Rehabilitation, many patients come in suffering from lower back pain that often extends from the center of the lower back down into the hip and even into the lower leg. This pain can become so severe that it limits your ability to sit for long periods, climb stairs, bend forward, or even perform simple tasks like putting on shoes and socks. For some, the pain is so intense that you may even struggle to reach down to pick up items off the floor or participate in activities you once enjoyed, such as lifting weights or playing football.

Our patients frequently describe how their lower back pain has made it difficult to get up from a chair, with the pain radiating down to the knee. At Complete Physical Rehab, the approach to treatment is unique compared to other clinics. We take a whole-body approach, examining movement patterns to identify the mechanical cause of the pain.

Many patients have already tried pain medications, received injections, or been told by their physician that nothing more can be done, after X-rays and MRIs show no apparent issues. Despite being advised to “just walk”, the pain often persists. That’s where Complete Physical Rehabilitation stands out from other PT clinics in our area – we focus on finding the root cause of lower back pain and providing long-lasting solutions to reduce or eliminate the impact it has on your life, rather than merely treating the symptoms, we target the root cause.

In addition to traditional manual therapy techniques, we provide our patients access to the latest technology such as a Class 4 high-powered LightForce laser to dramatically reduce pain and inflammation from day one.
